CITY COUNCIL MINUTES
TUESDAY, APRIL 2, 2019
6:00 P.M.
The Prattville City Council met in regular session on Tuesday, April 2, 2019, at 6:00 p.m. in the
Council Chambers at City Hall. After the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag, Council
President Striplin gave the invocation. Roll was called and all Councilors were present.
THE CHARACTER TRAIT OF THE MONTH IS BOLDNESS: Courage to say or do what is
true, right and just.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: City Council Meeting March 19, 2019. Councilor Strichik made a
motion to adopt the minutes and Councilor Cables seconded the motion. With no discussion,
the minutes were adopted (7-0).
COMMENTS FROM PERSONS PRESENT REGARDING TONIGHT’S AGENDA:
None
MAYOR’S REPORT:
Mayor Gillespie commended Auburn University on making the Final Four in the NCAA
Basketball Championship.
The Mayor reported that some of the paving projects are coming to an end, and striping is
underway. New pedestrian crosswalks have been added.
Fairview Avenue will be receiving a turning lane upgrade at the Jasmine Trail intersection.
Cobbs Ford Road will have one lane closed for median maintenance on Tuesday, April 9th,
from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
The Mayor urged all to use caution when traveling in the areas mentioned above. According to
Highway Workers Status Report, there were 14 deaths per day and more than 99 per week
reported.
The Mayor thanked all department heads and their teams for their dedication to the community,
and to safety. City departments have come in under budget for workman’s compensation,
which has saved the City approximately $250,000.00.
There are freshly painted City of Prattville logos on side of interstate and at the Home Place
Clock Tower to advertise the Web.com tournament, which will be held at Robert Trent Jones.
The Championship will be from April 15-21, 2019. All of the City’s hotels are sold out.
The Wilson Picket Music and Arts Festival will be held this Saturday at Pratt Park from 9:00
a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The Prattville Way Off Broadway Theater will be performing “Pride and Prejudice” April 11th
through May 5th.
Councilor Starnes asked if there were plans to put a traffic light at Jasmine Trail and Fairview
Avenue Intersection.
Mayor Gillespie responded that a traffic light at that intersection is in the long term plan for
Fairview Avenue. Currently the City is focusing on getting ditches piped and putting additional
turning lanes in along Fairview.

Councilor Starnes made a motion to place Item #’s 1-3 on a Consent Agenda and Councilor
Jackson seconded the motion. The items were placed on a Consent Agenda (7-0). Councilor
Strichik made a motion to adopt the Consent Agenda and Councilor Boone seconded the

COMMENTS FROM PERSONS PRESENT:
Jon Lee Finnegan, 211 Deer Trace, thanked the City for the new cross walk just before the
bridge at Doster Road and Highway 14. Ms. Finnegan asked if signage for said crosswalk
would be put in.
Mayor Gillespie responded that the City Plans on putting down solar lights as well as signage.
CLOSING COMMENTS:
The Mayor thanked all department heads, employees, citizens and the council, and stated that
Prattville is doing well. The Mayor will be giving the State of the City Address soon.
ADJOURN:
There being no further business to come before the council, Councilor Cables made a motion
to adjourn and Councilor Starnes seconded the motion. The meeting adjourned (7-0) at 6:21
p.m.
