PUBLIC HEARING MINUTES
TUESDAY, February 7, 2011
6:04 P.M.
CALL TO ORDER: The Prattville City Council met in public hearing on Tuesday, February 7, 2011
at 6:04 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall. Council President Mike Renegar called the meeting
to order. Roll was called and all Councilmen were recorded as being present.
AGENDA
APPEAL BY MS. MELISSA BISHOP REGARDING DILAPIDATED STRUCTURE AT 261
TENTH STREET.
Melisa Bishop, 2348 County Road 61, Deatsville, appeared to speak in favor of the appeal.
Ms. Bishop stated that she had requested an extension of three months, but would now like to
request a six month extension.
Councilman Wood asked Ms. Bishop if she owned this property and Ms. Bishop responded
that she did own this property.
Councilman Wood asked Ms. Bishop how long she had owned this property and Ms. Bishop
responded approximately six years.
Councilman Wood asked Ms. Bishop if this was the first notice she had received from the City
concerning this property. Ms. Bishop responded that this was the first notice she had received
form the City concerning this property.
Council President Renegar thanked Ms. Bishop and informed her that the Council would take
her request into consideration.
Councilman Wood requested that Joel Duke give the Planning Department’s report on this
property.
Mr. Duke stated that the property does not meet the City’s minimum housing code and
needed to be repaired to meet the code or demolished. Ms. Bishop was sent notice on
December 13, 2011 to demolish the structure. The notice stated that Ms. Bishop had forty five
days from date of notice to demolish structure or thirty days from date of notice to request a
Public Hearing and an extension.
Councilman Wood stated that he did not want to put hardship on anyone and that he
represents that area. Councilman Wood would like to work with Ms. Bishop and proposed
that the Council grant her a forty five day extension.
Mr. Duke explained that there would be a Resolution on the February 21, 2012 agenda to
grant the forty five day extension and at the end of the forty five days the property would then
be demolished.
Councilman Wood announced that he would sponsor that Resolution.
ADJOURN:
There being no further business to come before the council, Councilman Boles made a motion
to adjourn and Councilman Striplin seconded the motion. The public hearing was adjourned
at 6:11 p.m.
