Minutes 2014-04-01 1 PRATTVILLE CITY COUNCIL CITY COUNCIL MINUTES TUESDAY, APRIL 1, 2014 6:00 P.M. The Prattville City Council met in regular session on Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at 6:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall. After the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag, Council President Wood gave the invocation. Roll was called and all Councilors were present. THE CHARACTER TRAIT OF THE MONTH IS CREATIVITY: Approaching a need, a task, or an idea from a new perspective. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: City Council Minutes March 18, 2014. Councilor Starnes made a motion to approve the minutes and Councilor Boles seconded the motion. There being no discussion, the minutes were approved (7-0). COMMENTS FROM PERSONS PRESENT REGARDING TONIGHT’S AGENDA: None MAYOR’S REPORT: Mayor Gillespie was granted a point of privilege to allow Art Guild President Sherry George to present Director of Autauga Interfaith Care Center (AICC) and Councilor Denise Brown, with a check for $419.00 to benefit AICC. The funds were raised at the 3rd Annual Art Guild Soup Cook-off. Mrs. George thanked all of the Art Guild volunteers and especially thanked Sarita Gish, who donated pottery to be sold for this event. Mrs. George also thanked Chappy’s Deli, Chick-Fi-La, Sugar B’s Bakery, Longhorn Steakhouse, the City of Prattville and especially the Preforming Arts Department for helping with this event. The Mayor thanked the Art Guild, and stated that it is one of the City’s quality of life programs. The Mayor congratulated Performing Arts employee Barbara Simpson and Parks and Recreation Director Kellie Cook, as well as all the other departments that helped get ready for the Fountain City Arts Festival. The Mayor reminded everyone that April is both Child Abuse Prevention and Autism Awareness Month. April 2nd is National Walking Day, and the Mayor encouraged everyone to get out and walk, to promote health and wellness in the City of Prattville. The girls’ softball opening day will be on Saturday, April 5th, at 9:00 a.m., at Newton Park. Historic Walking Tours at begin this Saturday 10:00 a.m. at Prattauga Museum, and will run every Saturday this month. These tours are sponsored by Alabama Tourism. 2 The Mayor asked that the Council move forward on Agenda Item # 2, and thanked Head of Engineering Robby Anderson and Head of Planning Joel Duke for all their hard work on this project. The Mayor thanked Jackson and Thornton for the thorough job that they did on the audit. The Mayor thanked the City Council and City employees for all their hard work, as well as the citizens of Prattville. Council President Wood recognized that Pastor Dickerson and the Prattville Youth Mentoring Group were in attendance. REPORT FROM COUNCIL ON SPECIAL COMMITTEES: None AGENDA 1. RESOLUTION: To Set a Public Hearing to Declare Various Weeded Lots to be a Public Nuisance and Ordering Their Abatement per Title 11, Chapter 67 of the Code of Alabama, 1975, as Amended. Councilor Boone stated that this rezoning does not affect the home located on the Buena Vista property. By point of order, the Ordinance will hold over until after the public hearing on May 6, 2014. COMMENTS FROM PERSONS PRESENT: Linda Scull, 171 S. Northington Street, Prattville, addressed the Council regarding Section 63 (Swimming and Wading Pools) of the City’s Code of Ordinances. The section requires any pools to have a five foot fence around them. Mrs. Skull asked that the Council amend this section to exclude above ground pools. CLOSING COMMENTS: Councilor Brown called a Streets Committee meeting for Wednesday, April 9th at 3:00 p.m. Councilor Starnes called a Building Committee meeting for Thursday, April 7th at 4:00 p.m. Councilor Boles called a Fire Committee meeting for Thursday, April 10th at 4:00 p.m. Council President Wood thanked the Prattville Youth Mentoring Group for attending the meeting and hopes they continue to show interest in the City’s business. The Council President also thanked all who participated with the North Highland Park Community Fun Day. They were able to make a $500.00 donation to Autauga County Improvement Association. ADJOURN: There being no further business to come before the Council, Councilor Stares made a motion to adjourn and Councilor Boles seconded the motion.
