PH Minutes 2012-06-051 PRATTVILLE CITY COUNCIL PUBLIC HEARING MINUTES TUESDAY, JUNE 5, 2012 6:00 P.M. CALL TO ORDER: The Prattville City Council met in public hearing on Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall. Council President Renegar called the meeting to order. Roll was called and Council Brown and Councilor Miller where recorded as being absent. AGENDA 1. RESOLUTION: To Declare Various Weeded Lots to be a Public Nuisance and Ordering Their Abatement per Title 11, Chapter 67 of the Code of Alabama, 1975, as Amended. (Sponsored By: Councilor Wood) No one appeared to speak in favor of or in opposition to the Resolution. 2. ORDINANCE: To Rezone Property Located at 201 Gin Shop Hill Road from B-2 to R-4. (Sponsored By: Council President Renegar) Burke Lambert, with Development Group, gave a presentation in favor of the Ordinance. Mr. Lambert presented the Council with a site plan. The preliminary focus is on the historic property; the ten acres closest to the bridge. Development Group intends to raise the existing infrastructure to reveal and put an emphasis on the historic property. There will be ample parking space. Their plan is to do adaptive reuse of the structure into a multi-family building. Jerry Cimis, 141 Chestnut Street, Prattville, spoke in favor of the Ordinance. Mr. Cimis stated that he is strongly in-favor of this project. He had some concerns regarding the zoning. If there are plans for future retail in the building, the zoning should remain B-2. Once the building is rezoned to R-4 future retail will be prohibited. Mr. Lambert responded, to Mr. Cimis’ concerns, that while he is an advocate for mixed use properties, their focus for this property is solely residential. There is already so much commercial property downtown, and the hope is that this project helps the already vibrant downtown area. George Walthall, 216 Evergreen Street, Prattville expressed his support for this project. Mr. Walthall stated that 165 residents located downtown would mean a tremendous boost for the community. At 6:08 Councilor Miller arrived to the Public Hearing. On behalf of the Autauga Creek Improvement Committee Mr. Walthall announced that they wish to continue the canoe trail around the mill pond area. No one spoke in opposition of the Ordinance. ADJOURN: 2 There being no further business to come before the council, Councilor Boles made a motion to adjourn and Councilor Wood seconded the motion.
