ANTHONY CONNELL CHIEF BUILDING OFFICIAL Swimming Pool Safety Barrier Requirements Affidavit The intent of the swimming pool barrier requirements is to prevent uncontrolled access by children from a street or adjacent properties and from the home. Barriers shall be in compliance with sections 305 through 305.7 of the 2015 International Swimming Pool and Spa Code. I, (we), the undersigned, understand the following requirements for building a pool and pool safety barrier. I, (we), further understand that this protection must be in place prior to the pool being filled with water. ** A minimum 4 foot tall fence that will not allow passage of a 4 inch sphere. If a chain link fence or fences with horizontal or diagonal members are used, then additional requirements apply in accordance with Section 305 of the 2015 International Swimming Pool and Spa Code.** Gates shall swing out and be self-closing and have a self-latching device that meets Section 305 of the 2015 International Swimming Pool and Spa Code.** If the house is used as a barrier then the doors and windows that lead to the pool shall have alarms or other approved systems installed in accordance with Section 305.4 of the 2015 International Swimming Pool and Spa Code.** Suction Entrapment avoidance for pools and spas shall be provided in accordance with APSP 7. The following inspections are required: • Pool Bonding (Rough In)-Contractor responsibility • Pool Electrical Final-Contractor responsibility • Final Barrier Inspection-Home/Pool owner responsibility Final Inspection is required before the pool can be used. This agreement to comply is necessary for a construction permit to be issued to the contractor. **See attached Swimming Pool Barrier document for detailed requirements. I, (we), understand that not having a complete barrier around the perimeter of the pool is a violation of Section 305, 2015 International Swimming Pool and Spa Code. I further understand that filling a pool with water before passing a final electric inspection and a final barrier inspection by the City of Prattville Building Department is a violation Section 106, 2015 International Swimming Pool and Spa Code, as adopted by the City of Prattville. The Building Department will consider these violations willful and will commence the appropriate disciplinary actions against the Home/Pool owner. I swear that I have read and understand each item on this form and attached document for Swimming Pool Barrier requirements and that the City of Prattville Building Department is available to answer any questions that I may have. Should I fail to meet or come into compliance with any of these guidelines, the City of Prattville will prosecute under all applicable state and local statutes.
